Eight people have been killed and several others injured when a nine-story building collapsed in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
According to Arab News, 24 people were injured when a nine-storey building collapsed on Saturday morning.
Police cordoned off the area while civil defense forces conducted a rescue operation to evacuate those trapped in the rubble.
A statement from Cairo’s governorate said the building collapsed at 3 a.m. local time in the governorate’s crisis room.
The cause of the building’s collapse is not yet known, but such incidents are frequent in Egypt due to illegal construction.
