Karachi: Islamabad United defeated Quetta Gladiators by six wickets.
Islamabad’s innings was started by Paul Sterling and Alex Hales. Sterling batted aggressively and hit six and two fours off the balls of Quetta bowler Nawaz. Islamabad scored 17 runs in the first over.
The Islamabad openers continued to bat aggressively and crossed the 50 marks in 4 overs. Sterling rained fours and sixes and scored 52 off just 21 balls. At the end of 5 overs, Islamabad scored 69 runs without any loss.
Islamabad’s first wicket fell on the fifth ball of the sixth over. Alex Hales scored 23 runs off the ball of Zahid Mahmood.
In the tenth over, Zahid Mahmood took the big wicket of Paul Sterling. Sterling played a fast and aggressive inning of 56 off 33 balls. At the end of the tenth over, Islamabad scored 95 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.
In the 15th over, Naseem Shah caught Rohail Nazir off Stan. Rohail played 28 balls and scored 34. At the end of the over, with a loss of three wickets, Islamabad’s score was 130 runs.
Hasnain took the wicket of Islamabad captain Shadab on the first ball of the 17th over and was caught by Muhammad Nawaz. Shadab Khan scored 21 off 17 balls.
Quetta Gladiator’s innings
Earlier, Quetta Gladiators completed 156 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. In the first over of their innings, Quetta lost one wicket. In the first over, Saim Ayub of Quetta scored 5 runs on the ball of Hassan Ali and was caught by Paul Sterling. He returned to the pavilion and the first wicket of Quetta fell on the score of 7. Quetta Gladiators continued to struggle in the opening over and lost another wicket in the third ball of the fourth over. Quetta batsman Duplessis became LBW on the ball of Hassan Ali. At the end of four overs, Quetta’s total score was 31 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
Another wicket of Quetta Gladiators fell on the fifth ball of the sixth over. Azam Khan of Quetta could not show performance in this match too and get out on the ball of Faheem Ashraf. Faheem Ashraf took his second wicket and Quetta lost 4 wickets for a total score of 41.
In the 10th over, Shadab’s ball was stumped by Ben Cutting wicketkeeper Rohail Nazir. At the end of ten overs, Quetta lost five wickets for a total of 72 runs.
Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfraz Ahmed hit sixes in the 13th over. He hit four sixes off the balls of Islamabad Gladiator bowler Iftikhar. Thus, at the end of the thirteenth over, Quetta’s total score was 113 with five wickets in hand. Sarfraz Ahmed also completed his half-century on the third ball of the 14th over. He completed his half-century by playing 31 balls.
Sarfraz Ahmed became LBW in the 17th over after playing a brilliant inning of 54 off the ball of Islamabad bowler Faheem Ashraf. At the end of 17 overs, Quetta scored 134 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.
The twentieth over of the innings was a bit long in which Islamabad United bowler Mohammad Musa bowled 3 wide balls. Quetta’s Zahid Mohammad was run out in this over. Muhammad Nawaz remained unbeaten on 31 off 29 balls. Quetta scored 156 for the loss of seven wickets.
Faheem Ashraf of Islamabad was the most successful bowler. He took 3 wickets for 11 runs. Hassan Ali took 2 wickets for 23 runs and captain Shadab Khan bowled one wicket for 25 runs. Islamabad United scored 16 runs.
Islamabad United won the toss and elected to field in today’s PSL match. The match between Islamabad and Quetta, which was postponed yesterday, is being played at the National Stadium in Karachi today. Two foreign players of Islamabad United are not part of the team due to Korona.
According to the PCB spokesperson, at least three foreign players can play according to the PSL rules. The event technical committee allowed the franchise to feed two foreign players.
