Herat: Dozens of oil and gas tankers exploded on the Afghanistan-Iran border, injuring 60 people and burning more than 500 vehicles to ashes.
According to the international news agency, several tankers full of oil and gas parked at the customs office of Islam Qala in Herat near the Afghanistan-Iran border suddenly exploded.
The explosion of the tankers also engulfed hundreds of vehicles in the sky, killing more than 500 vehicles and injuring 17 others.
Herat Health Department spokesman Muhammad Rafiq Sherzai said 60 injured people had been brought to Islam Qila Clinic and Regional Hospital, 11 of them in critical condition, but no casualties were reported.
The oil tankers that exploded contained millions of dollars worth of oil and gas, but it was not clear if the tankers were coming to Afghanistan or Iran. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blasts.
