Polling for the 37 Senate seats will be held by secret ballot on Wednesday, March 3, for which the Election Commission of Pakistan has completed its preparations.
The Election Commission has warned the candidates and political parties that the time for retirement and election campaign for the candidates is over and now if anyone runs a campaign, action will be taken under corrupt practices.
A vigilance committee and a special monitoring cell have also been set up to prevent corruption and irregularities in the election process. A committee comprising representatives of FBR, NAB, SBP, and NADRA will provide information on corruption and may conduct inquiries as and when required.
The Election Commission, while reiterating its commitment to abide by the opinion of the Supreme Court, has made it clear that voting in the Senate elections will be secret under the old system.
It has also been decided to use technology in the upcoming Senate elections for which the Election Commission has constituted a committee headed by Additional Secretary Election Commission which will submit its recommendations in 4 weeks.
