Haider Ali’s half century, Rutherford match winning innings
Karachi: In the eighth match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021, Peshawar Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by 3 wickets. Imam-ul-Haq and Kamran Akmal started the innings for Peshawar in pursuit of the target of 199 runs but Kamran Akmal was dismissed for a total score of only 13 after which Tom Cadmore, who came down one, went on to score only 4 runs.
Haider Ali and Imam-ul-Haq shared 58 runs. Imam-ul-Haq’s wickets were bowled by Zahid Mahmood for 79 runs who scored 41 runs. Shoaib Malik started batting aggressively and also hit high and high sixes. Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and invited Quetta Gladiators to bat first in the match being played at National Stadium Karachi.
Saim Ayub and Cameron Delport started the innings for the Gladiators but Mohammad Imran bowled out Delport for just 2 runs off 15 overs, replacing Chris Gayle with South African star batsman Faf Dupleix on the field for batting. The other batsman to be dismissed by the Gladiators was Saim Ayub, who was run out for 21 off 19 balls.
Faf Duplessis was caught trying to play a high shot on Wahab Riaz’s ball. Duplessis scored 37 off 26 balls with the help of 4 fours and a six. Captain Sarfraz Ahmed along with Azam Khan led the innings responsibly. Moved forward and made his half-century. Both scored 105 runs for the fourth wicket partnership. Sarfraz Ahmed hit 31 fours and a six to Wahab Riaz in the 19th over and was dismissed for 81 runs.
In the last over, Saqib Mahmood took 2 wickets off the first two balls, including Azam Khan and Ben Cutting, who scored 47 off 26 balls. Saqib Mehmood could not make a hat trick but he also dismissed Mohammad Nawaz and took the third wicket in the over. Quetta Gladiators scored 198 runs, the highest ever on the scoreboard. Saqib Mehmood took the most 3 wickets for Peshawar Zalmi, captain Wahab Riaz took 54 runs in his 4 overs and took 2 wickets.
Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfraz Ahmed said the wicket was good and they would try to give a good target. Peshawar Zalmi, on the other hand, won one match while losing the other and is in 5th position with 2 points. Quetta Gladiators made three changes for the match while Peshawar Zalmi retained the winning team in the last match.
